WASHINGTON —A proposed bill calling for a ban on drug advertising that would have limited sales of generic prescription drugs was seized by U. S. prosecutors last week. The bill was filed by Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Rep. EdWellman (D-Alaska) of Michigan, who both have been charged with dealing with drug-related charges and are awaiting their release.
The proposal was part of a group of bills introduced by drug industry activists and critics of the industry that the Justice Department is expected to take up this week.
Drug companies and doctors have been fighting a legal battle over how to market generic versions of the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, the first of its kind to be available over-the-counter.
